Visitors entering country through KLIA to be screened for MERS-CoV

PUTRAJAYA, : All visitors entering the country through the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) in Sepang will be screened for the Middle East respiratory syndrome corona virus (MERS-CoV) said Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam.

He said the situation in the country was under control and no new cases were reported, he told reporters after launching the National Healthcare Leaders’ Summit on Patients for Patient Safety, here today.

Yesterday, Health Director-general Datuk Seri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah had said in a statement that no new cases were reported throughout the country.

Malaysia recorded its first death related to MERS-CoV on April 13, after a 54-year-old man contracted the MERS-CoV while performing umrah in Makkah.

The victim from Batu Pahat, Johor died at the Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital of severe pneumonia from MERS-CoV infection, the first casualty reported in the country and region.

The World Health Organisation has recorded 238 cases and 92 deaths related to MERS-CoV globally. – BERNAMA
