Jul 17: Prime minister Najib Razak spent RM44.071 million on overseas trips during Barisan Nasional's previous term between March 2008 and May 2013.
The figure was provided by minister in the Prime Minister's Department Shahidan Kassim in his parliamentary reply to Taiping MP Nga Kor Ming.
Nga later said the amount meant an average of RM8.8 million every year or about RM734,000 every month.
"The cost is very high, and we demand an explanation from the prime minister.
"From these trips, how did the country benefit?" he asked.
Nga also compared Najib's overseas trips to those by former PM Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, whose total trips cost the public RM30 million.
Last year, minister in the Prime Minister's Department Nazri Aziz said that a tour by Najib and his wife Rosmah Mansor (pic) to three Western cities had incurred RM3 million.
Nazri had also given a breakdown of the costs: for Najib's two-day plus stay in London, the government forked out RM849,175. A similar length of stay in New York cost double that amount, at RM1,606,402, while his remaining days spent in Washington for a private visit, cost the government 452,985.75.
