BUKIT MERTAJAM: The woman who was assaulted by her husband in the presence of their two young children in the lift of a private hospital in Bandar Perda, here, hopes the police will act fast against the man.
The 36-year-old woman who lodged a police report on Aug 12 following the incident, said she was worried her husband would act more violently and hoped that police would detain him.
The woman, who lives separately from her husband who she claimed had married another woman in 2011, said she suffered pain and bruises from being repeatedly slapped and kicked by her husband, from whom she was seeking divorce.
She and her estranged husband had separately gone to the hospital to visit their eldest child, aged nine, who was warded there for high fever when they had an argument in the lift and he then assaulted her.
The woman, a factory worker, said she did not expect so many people to react to the video recording on the incident which was uploaded by her younger brother video to YouTube.
The brother, Mohd Yunus Ahmad Ramli, 31, said he uploaded the video clip of his sister being assaulted to YouTube and shared on Facebook after it was sent to him by his elder brother and hoped police would take further action.
Following the incident, Penang police are looking for a public servant seen in the closed-circuit television camera recording assaulting his wife in the lift of a private hospital in Bukit Mertajam on Monday.
State CID chief, SAC Mazlan Kesah said the 36-year-old suspect who worked in Jerantut, Pahang went missing and did not turn up for work after the 4pm incident. -- BERNAMA
