He
said from April 23 up till today, the water level in the Sungai
Selangor Dam has gone up from 38.97% (89.63 million cubic metres) to
40.23% (92.53 million cubic metres).
Although
the level has not hit 42%, Anwar said the state government should stop
rationing water for now, taking into account the high water levels in
other dams.
“I
also urge the people to use water wisely, reduce water usage for
purposes like washing cars, and report incidents of broken pipes as soon
as possible so that we can control the water wastage.
“This
will give the government and responsible parties the opportunity to
review the projection based on a lower water consumption rate to avoid
any prolonged water rationing in the future,” Anwar said in a statement
today.
The
state government announced yesterday that water rationing in Selangor
would continue despite an improvement in water levels at dams.
Selangor
Youth, Sports, Infrastructure and Public Amenities exco member Dr Ahmad
Yunus Hairi said the water levels in six of the seven dams in the state
had increased since April 22.
However, there were no plans yet to end the water rationing exercise, he said, as several issues need to be examined.
Yunus
said Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim would meet the
Selangor water committee soon to discuss the issues, which include
water levels in the dams, the contents of the water flow and total
capacity.
Between
April 22 and 28, the water level at the Batu dam was 79.6%, Klang Gates
58.49%, Langat 53.82%, Semenyih 75.68%, Sungai Tinggi 62.6% and Tasik
Subang 86.77%.
Only Sungai Selangor had the lowest water level of 40.08%.
Yunus
also reportedly said that there is a possibility that several decisions
may be reached in the next few days, including stopping the rationing
in stages.
Previously,
the Selangor government had said that the water rationing exercise
would be stopped if the water levels in the dam was at least 55%.
