KUALA LUMPUR, Apr 28: The Matriculation and the Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) are on par, the Dewan Negara was told today.
Deputy Education Minister Datuk Mary Yap Kain Ching stressed that both the courses functioned as pre-university qualifications.
“The curriculum is the same, that is, to prepare students for tertiary education.
“The matriculation programme
offers Science and Commerce courses whereas the STPM offers Science and
Literature,” she said in response to a supplementary question by Senator
Lim Nget Yoon here.
Lim had queried about the status of the two programmes saying they did not appear to be on par.
Yap added that the matriculation was a fast track foundation programme, whereas the STPM was for a duration of two years. – BERNAMA
