PONTIAN: All agencies investigating the 1 Malaysia Development Board
(1MDB) issue should carry on with their probes separately under their
respective laws, even if there is no formal taskforce handing the case
said Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin (pix).
The Umno deputy president said that each agency including Bank Negara and Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) had their own powers under certain acts.
"The people are waiting. Please make a decision if there is a case or not. If there is proceed…If not, close the file," he said in his speech at the launch of the Pontian Umno delegates meeting here on Sunday.
Muhyiddin said that Bank Negara has carried out its own investigations under the Financial Services Act, which allows for fines of up to RM50mil and imprisonment.
"So its up to the new attorney general to see if there is a prima facie case. Do not take too long as the people are waiting.
"Trust and confidence will be eroded if it takes too long," he added.
During Muhyiddin's speech, the delegates also jeered at Pontian MP Datuk Ahmad Mazlan when the latter told him to do his job properly as International Trade and Industry deputy minister.
"You should not boo your deputy division chairman," he told the delegates.
Muhyiddin reiterated that he has never betrayed Umno and has been with the party for the past 42 years including 38 years in government.
"I am not worried as I have done nothing wrong in raising issues with regards to the the 1MDB," he said.
Muhyiddin said that in the early days of his removal from Cabinet, there was talk about his arrest under Section 124(B) of the Penal Code and the Sedition Act.
"I am not an Anwar Ibrahim and will not go to the street to demonstrate," he said referring to the reformasi demonstrations when Anwar was sacked.
Muhyiddin said that he would continue to speak out as he was touched by the support he received from people around the country.
"When I went to catch my flight on Firefly recently, the shop owner did not want to charge me for my coffee.
"Again when I went for a haircut, the barber said someone had paid for me.
"All these kind gestures are significant as I know that whatever I have done so far to seek justice and fairness is correct," he said, adding that he was getting support not just from Malays but also Chinese and Indians.

Muhyiddin: Universiti Ohio kini tawar pengajian Bahasa Malaysia
Written By Unknown on Tuesday, 12 November 2013 | 16:52
- Bernama, 13 November, 2013.
